The Simple Truth

The Simple Truth, hosted by Jim Havens, airs each weekday from 4-5PM(EST) on The Station of the Cross Media Network. The focus of the show is authentically receiving, living, and transmitting the simple Truth of Jesus and His Catholic Church. We're in challenging times, but we are made to rise up and meet the challenges before us with Christ. We'll be proclaiming all that is good, true, and beautiful, applying it to real life, and we won't shy away from the difficult topics, especially lifting up the truth in those areas where it is most unpopular, and therefore most needed. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "The disciple of Christ consents to 'live in the truth,' that is, in the simplicity of a life in conformity with the Lord's example, abiding in his truth. "If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth." Join us live on the radio, on YouTube, Facebook, or listen to the podcast!

3/10/25 - Discipleship: isn't that a Protestant thing? The concept of Christian discipleship gets stressed so much in Evangelical culture that many Catholics assume that - like "altar calls" or the "Rapture" - it's not their concern. Or maybe you're more familiar with a form of "discipleship" that stresses personal fulfillment, moral and doctrinal flexibility, and an individualist gospel that measures success by worldly standards. This idea has roots in Protestant "health & wealth" preaching, but you can find it in Catholic churches, too. Both of those notions are dead wrong, says Fr. Jeffrey Kirby. In Real Discipleship, Fr. Kirby says that discipleship should be the central concern of every Catholic, and that far from being all about us and our earthly needs, true discipleship is about following Jesus diligently on the path to the Cross. A lively mix of personal stories, theology, history, Bible study, common sense, and prayerful meditation, the book will be a valuable companion on your own journey along Christ's path - all the way to Calvary and to eternal glory. 3/6/25 - Never before in the life of our nation have more drugs – legal and illegal – been consumed than now, and in such an acute time as this, it is difficult to evaluate which mood-altering drugs carry moral legitimacy. In these pages, author John-Mark Miravalle explores, through a Catholic lens, the phenomenon of chemical mood alteration and reflects on our feelings of pleasure and suffering and how they relate to the rest of our humanity. John-Mark L. Miravalle is professor of Systematic and Moral theology at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Maryland. He received his doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Regina Apostolorum in Rome. He is the author of three books, including Why God? Why Jesus? Why the Catholic Church? He has debated noted atheists on topics such as God's existence, same-sex marriage, and theistic morality. He and his wife Jessica have five children. You can find Dr. Miravalle's book here: https://sophiainstitute.com/product/how-to-feel-good-and-how-not-to/

3/5/25 - Beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2000, Fr. Seelos possessed great mystical gifts due to his life of intense prayer and penance. His innate kindness, understanding and dedication to the needs of the faithful from all walks of life makes him an outstanding model for those in religious life and laity alike. As a missionary preacher and lifelong friend of the poor and destitute, Seelos was a spiritual father to tens of thousands, giving counsel and hearing the confessions of all who came to him. Despite his untimely death at age 48, so profound was his apostolic zeal that sickness, persecution, and even the upheaval caused by civil war could not stop him. 2/26/25 - St. Damien was a Belgian priest who answered God's call to minister to the lepers of Molokai, Hawaii in the late 19th century. Leaving behind his home and family, St. Damien selflessly devoted himself to caring for those exiled to the isolated leper colony, providing not only medical care, but also spiritual support. He built churches, schools, and homes, offering the love and dignity of Christ to those society had abandoned. Despite contracting leprosy himself and ultimately dying from the disease, St. Damien's unwavering faith and commitment to the marginalized can teach us a lot about the Catholic Church's mission to serve the poorest and most vulnerable.
